Sir,
The other day, 25 July 2005, I was talking to some very smart, intelligent, uniformed, experienced, serving NCOs and Soldiers of 1st Bn The Royal Scots who, in contradiction to what the Colonels of the Council of Colonels say, and others in the Army Chain of Command, are totally with us, the SOSR Campaign. They informed me they are all really "dischuffed" with the situation. Not only is Morale low but also Recruiting.

They were very guarded in what they said, for obvious reasons, and were most concerned for their futures in the service and mentioned very strongly how the plans will ruin the 'Regimental Spirit', the 'Regimental Family Spirit' and The Local Regiment Concept.

I must say that these lads I am referring too did not know who I was.

Surely Commanding Officers of all the Infantry Regiments concerned must know what's going on in their units, and I suspect it is pretty general if not 100%. If they don't know then I feel that they are being negligent in their duties to the real welfare of their soldiers.

Surely, again, they should represent what is going on up the Chain of Command, as would have happened in my day (although I am loathe to use such a 'sentimental old soldier's phrase').
