Proposed Structure of The Royal Regiment of Scotland
The Royal Scots & The Kings Own Scottish Borderers (1st Battalion)
Royal Highland Fusiliers (2nd Battalion)
The Black Watch (3rd Battalion)
The Highlanders (4th Battalion)
The Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders (5th Battalion)
Territorial Army (6th Battalion) - this Battalion may be renamed the 51st Highland Regiment
Territorial Army (7th Battalion) - this Battalion may be renamed the 52nd Lowland Regiment
Army Cadets
- they are expected to continue as they are in their present form,
- their present attachments and affiliations to individual Battalions are expected to be maintained.
The new Scottish Regiment will have bases in Edinburgh, Northern Ireland, Preston and Fallingbostel, in Germany.
It will operate in a number of tactical roles from Light Infantry to Heavy Armoured Infantry.
The Kings Own Scottish Borderers and the Royal Scots are to be amalgamated to form a new Battalion.
The other 4 regiments will lose their Regimental status and will be downgraded to numbered Battalions of the new Royal Regiment of Scotland.
Numbering of the battalions will be based on the historical precedence of the former regiments, e.g. since the Royal Scots (the 1st of Foot) are the most senior, they will be the 1st battalion, down to the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, being the youngest of the Scottish regiments, they will be the 5th battalion.
The two TA battalions will form the 6th and 7th battalions.
