Regimental Head Quarters & Museum

It was announced on the 2 August 2005 that the RHQ for the new Royal Regiment of Scotland will be in Edinburgh Castle.

Regimental Depots

It is likely that the Depots for each Battalion will be:-
  • Royal Scots & KOSB, 1st Battalion - Edinburgh

  • Royal Highland Fusiliers, 2nd Battalion - Edinburgh

  • Black Watch, 3rd Battalion - Belfast

  • Highlanders, 4th Battalion - Germany

  • Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders, 5th Battalion, Canterbury

It is also likely that if recruits enlist for a Battalion of their choice, they will be posted to that Battalion, but if other Battalions are under strength, recruits will be sent to these Battalions to make up their numbers.

Nothing has yet been decided regarding the current Regimental Head Quarters and whether or not they will move to Edinburgh.

Regimental Trustees

It is also expected that Trustees of current Regimental funds will continue to be responsible for each Regimental Association.

The Trustees will also be responsible for the funds, maintenance and relevant business of their Regimental Museums.

Regimental Museums

1 April 2005

The armed forces minister, Adam Ingram, stated that the future of Scotland's regimental museums is safe.

While visiting the Royal Highland Fusiliers Museum in Glasgow, he said he could "absolutely refute" rumours that the museums will be closed. He continued to say, "This is not the case at all. The infantry museums are part of Scotland's proud heritage." He also emphasised that they will not merge or close under the impending military restructuring plans.

The seven regimental museums in Scotland are charitable trusts. The Regimental Museum of the Royal Highland Fusiliers, is the main repository for the historical records, artefacts and memorabilia of the Highland Light Infantry.
